The handwriting is on the wall: We can't compete with India and China. As our standard of living decreases, it will get more and more nasty as the ones in control (and we know who they are - the Koch brothers et al) increase their power over the powerless little people who will eventually be turned out into the streets, and nobody will come to their rescue. Who will be left to help? The power brokers will simply hunker down in their yachts and fiddle.
As this all plays out, the current contrived crisis will be looked back at as nothing but a tea party. At some point, with the Republicans in control, a war will be orchestrated to gain back our superiority. Already, I'm sure, right wing think tanks are laying out the psychological components that will incite the dull American population into a war with China. It just takes a wave or two of the flag.
This will be a big gamble, but the rich are gamblers. Other than gambling away all the trillions (that they have been recieving for thirty years from their Reagan and Bush tax cuts) on hedge funds and investing in farm futures and oil, raising the prices of those and other comodities to all of us, the wealthy do absolutely nothing to invest in America. As a matter of fact, their stockholdrs love it when they ship jobs overseas. More profit for them.
But trying to reason with the poor and middle class guns and bibles contingent and show them graphically that the Republicans are their enemies cloaked in Christian clothes, has about as much chance as a snowball in hell. About as much a chance as pointing out to them that "The Son Of God" is the biggest hoax ever played on mankind. How do you reason with insanity?
I guarantee you that these people, even after losing their social security, their military pensions, their Medicare and Medicaid, unemployment insurance - all their social programs, as well as jobs, fair wages and benefits, health care insurance, and the list goes on - will still vote Republican because Murdoch has effectively brainwashed them into thinking that they should sacrifice everything they have to the rich and powerful so that they will get some trickle down. Wow. They obviously will never have the capacity to think for themselves. Good luck to them. I feel sorry for them. It's going to get rough.
The 400 American dictators (wealthiest families) are increasing their holdings at an alarming rate. This disparity of wealth is slowly, insidiously taking everything away from the poor and middle class, including the freedom to own a home, the freedom to have a job, and the access to even cursory healthcare.
As these wealthy families and their shills and concubines (The Kochs, the Murdochs, the hate radio and hate cable news, corporate America) consolidate their power and influence to include almost all elected representatives, capitalism, the engine of wealth creation, will completely ignore the needs of the common folk.
Why should it bother, the poor are powerless. If fascism, communism is beneficial for the people, capitalism is beneficial to the wealthy and to corporations and business interests. The rich and powerful have only to convince the poor and middle class folks that their nation comes first, and therefore it is in their best interests to sacrifice all they have including their futures to corporate and wealthy America because socialism is bad for them, while the facts are that since Reagan, capitalism and evangelicalism has been killing them.
The brain washing has been ingenious. Americans really believe that the more they sacrifice, while the wealthy enjoy tax breaks and congressional favors, the more the wealth will trickle down to the poor and middle classes. Wow. How long has the Bush tax cuts been in effect? What has the result been, other than the wealthy getting stupidly rich and all the jobs going overseas?
Not long from now the poor and middle classes will be seen walking, from their cardboard box homes under freeway overpasses, to the local voting booth to again vote Republican. This is their kamma. This is their reward for living in dullness and delusion. For “God’s" sake, our country and our freedoms are dying: WAKE UP! Before it's too late.

Capitalism was both the making (in the beginning) and the undoing (in the end) of our country. I am optimistic, but I'm also superstitious. I don't know that my optimism has a basis in reality, and my optimism may be unfair to my children's generation. Rather than holding back the wealth, we should be giving five times more in order to experience 20 times more growth. The economy is a catalytic process, but at present Conservatives are confusing deterioration for anabolic. The wealth and resources have gone in one direction, while 98% of the American population has gone in another. The twain shall not meet again soon, yet astoundingly better than half of all Americans are agreeable to their own throat slitting, as they demonstrated in November, 2010. Well, now they are going to reap the fruit of their ignorance.» left by Anonymous (204 days 19 hours ago.)

Capitalism works when it is pure, ie, the profits are plowed back into the workers and the factory. When capitaism becomes unpure, that is the profits no longer benefit the worker but benifit the owner only, ie taking the profits and giving them to stock holders, creating monopolies and mega corporations, or gambling them away with derivitive trading or speculation, then if that capitalism is not controlled by law, well, we see the results now. Capitalism and socialism must co-exist. Incentive (human nature to be greedy) must always be tempered by law so that the common interests are served and the less forunate are taken care of.

Ignorance breeds blind compliance. Until we change our goals of institutionalized ignorance or selective education, at the very least our willingness to deceive, this country will never regain it's benevolent soul, before it transformed into just another baron 3rd world despot.» left by Anonymous (203 days 19 hours ago.)
The question is, why do the guns and bible crowd remain ignorant? I posit that it is their religion, a religion not of inquiry into truth, but a religion of blind belief with no thinking or understanding required. But I believe that the cross is cracking.
