President Obama Warns Youth Of Using Facebook

by Beth Kade(1)

Barack Obama offered American youth a gentle warning about the use of Faceboook and what it could mean for their future.

The president was speaking to a group of high schoolers in Arlington, Virginia, when he explained that many future employers are using the site to scope out prospective employees.

This means those drunken pictures from cousin Eddy's birthday party are probably not going to land you the dream job that you thought your college education would provide.

Also, those scathing remarks about an incompetent president will probably not land that government job you were seeking.

" First of all, I want everybody here to be careful about what you post on Facebook, because in the YouTube age whatever you do, it will be pulled up again later somewhere in your life, " Obama said.

" And when you're young, you know, you make mistakes and you do some stupid stuff.

Hmm, isn't that what every mom in America is saying to their teenagers! Thanks Mr. President for bringing it home to our kids.

Facebook is a great technological tool, but it is giving perspective employees a new outlet and glimpse into who a person truly is. Here are a few guidelines to remember when dealing with social media.

Only share your information with your friends. Do not make your profiles public for any reason. The easier you make it for an employer to see your mistakes, the worse it is for you.

Email pics-So you have these great pics of you dancing on the table drunk. First off, know your friends. Do not let them publish you in embarrassing situations. Email is a great way to transport pics, but be careful in the first place and this is not a worry.

Know who is following you-Do not allow people on Twitter or Facebook that you do not know. It is just too dangerous.

I know it is fun to have these new ways to stay in constant contact. Just try to think of the future. Like the president said, it only takes one mistake to make you lose a presidential race especially if everyone in America has seen your embarrassment on YouTube.
