Banning The President From Speaking To Kids In Schools Is Absurd
by Beth Kade(1)For decades, Presidents have addressed families speaking of important issues. It is called education. Families of kids and adults alike would gather around radios, televisions, etc. crossing party lines to hear the President speak.
My mom often talked of sitting with her siblings listening to John F. Kennedy speak to a nation.
Exposing kids to the President and the political process furthers the education of our kids. They should know who their President is and what he believes even if it is not what their own parents believe.
Presidents addressing kids has been a historical tradition with several former presidents doing the same thing. What makes President Obama's speech planned for Tuesday any different?
A letter written home from my own son's school district outlines the issues the president will discuss with the children.
"According to the representatives with the White House, President Obama's speech will address four main points: The importance of staying in school; The importance of education; The importance of education to the country; and The importance of education to the future of the country."
Parents are protesting this? So are we telling our kids we don't want them to stay in school? I guess I am a little confused as to how this is a big issue that we need to shield our kids from?
As a child, I was pulled from one political rally to the next. My dad stressed the importance of understanding the political process. It wasn't so much about the beliefs, it was about the process.
So what if Obama pushes something else on these kids during this time? Will you not have the opportunity to share with your children on what you believe? Furthermore, why are you afraid of your kids making their own decisions?
I think the monitor of the Texas public education says it best so I leave you with her quote that was published in the Houston Chronicle.
“It's hard to imagine anything more ridiculous than attacking the president of the United States for talking to students about the importance of getting a good education and being a good citizen,” said Kathy Miller, president of the Texas Freedom Network, which monitors public education in Texas.“I wish our elected leaders were responsible enough to denounce this kind of wild-eyed paranoia,” Miller said. “But the problem is too many of them are actually feeding this kind of nonsense — like when the governor flirts with secessionists and State Board of Education members say the president sympathizes with terrorists.”
Which kind of parent are you?

Thank you for taking the time to speak out. I live in the reddest state in the country and am surrounded by Obama haters. The hatred is so thick that they oppose everything he does even when he does something that is not controversial at all. Like Ms Clinton says, If Obama could walk on water he would be criticized for not being able to swim.Respond to this comment
