The Birthers Are a Miscarriage of Logic
by Tex Norman(135)
One of the liberal blogs, The Daily Kos, commissioned a polling company, Research 2000 to poll people regarding this question:
Do you believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America or not?
Yes 77
No 11
Not sure 12
No 11
Not sure 12
The results of this poll were pulled together from a survey of 2,400 adults and show that 11 percent of Americans would qualify for the title of Birther.
Now any poll comes up with big totals for their question or questions, but the significance of the responses is found in how the results break down. By that I mean, how many Republicans, Democrats, and Independents answered the question and how they answered.
The political break down is as follows:
Yes No Not sure
Dem 93 4 3
Rep 42 28 30
Ind 83 8 9
Dem 93 4 3
Rep 42 28 30
Ind 83 8 9
The break down by region of the country is as follows:
Yes No Not sure
Northeast 93 4 3
South 47 23 30
Midwest 90 6 4
West 87 7 6
South 47 23 30
Midwest 90 6 4
West 87 7 6
What this poll proves to me is that logic, rationale, responsible thought have no place with Republicans and the South. Does this mean that Republicans and specifically Southern Republicans are dumb? While one might be tempted to leap to such a conclusion, but that would not be either fair, or accurate.
Of course, the birth certificate is available to view on line:
How is this refuted by a Birther? Photoshopped!
I find it interesting that even when the legitimate media has looked into this question and reported that Obama was indeed born in Hawaii, even thought the birth certificate has been seen on camera during news broadcasts and on pundit Chris Matthews show Hard Ball, the Birther belief is not settled. All a red blooded American Birther has to do is say that the document is: FALSE!
When one Republican Congressman had his staff pull issues of an August 1961 back issues of the Hawaii newspapers and found the birth announcement for Barrack Obama, and concluded that a hoax would be impossible, because there would be no way they could have known in 1961 that a biracial child would one day be elected President of the United States, making the newspaper accounts undeniable proof that Obama was born in one of the States that is part of the United States, well, that had zero effect on the Birthers. All a true believer Birther has to do is say one word: FAKE!
The Obama campaign released a 2007 certified abstract copy of his Certification of Live Birth (sometimes called a "short form) that states Barack Obama was born in , Hawaii, on August 4, 1961. Surely this would silence those questioning his place of birth. No. All a Birther has to do is say is: FORGERY!!
One of the more common responses to the certified abstract copy of his Certification of Live Birth is to point out that the Obama people have not released a photocopy of his original, official birth certificate—only a short official certification of live birth. When the, Department of Health Spokeswoman Janice Okubo was asked why the original official birth certificate (rather than the short form) has not been released to the public Ms. Okubo pointed out that Hawaii have that sort of document. When the director of the Department of Health stated that the document most of us would call the original (as opposed to a certified copy) is “. . . on record in accordance with state policies and procedures,” even this does not will never satisfy a Birther. All the Birthers have to do to cling in order to cling to their single one and only issue, and that is stand up, pull their hair, and shout out like a banshee: LIARS, LIBERAL CONSPIRACY, OFFICIAL COVER UP!
When the media interviewed an elderly Honolulu prep school teacher named Barbara Nelson on Obama’s Inauguration Day the old educator here is part of that newspaper interview:
"I may be the only person left who specifically remembers his birth. His parents are gone, his grandmother is gone, the obstetrician who delivered him is gone," said Nelson, referring to Dr. Rodney T. West, who died in February at the age of 98. Here's the story: Nelson was having dinner at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Waikiki Beach with Dr. West, the father of her college friend, Jo-Anne. Making conversation, Nelson turned to Dr. West and said: "So, tell me something interesting that happened this week," she recalls.
His response: "Well, today, Stanley had a baby. Now that's something to write home about."
His response: "Well, today, Stanley had a baby. Now that's something to write home about."
"I remember Dr. West saying 'Barack Hussein Obama, now that's a musical name,'" said Nelson.
Now how in the hell could a Birther get around this?
It all goes to show that if you want to believe something, even if it is a baseless, blatant lie debunked by the legitimate media, well, you can always cling to the lie and debunk the evidence.
What strikes me as odd is that Obama’s opponent for President of the United States was John McCain, a man born in Panama. Now, at the time of his McCain’s birth Panama was a US Territory, still, if you’re going to go claiming a Presidential Candidate was not born in the US it would seem like Panama would be a much easier lie to sell. Between Hawaii and Panama, well, Panama seems less like the United States to me.
