Glenn Beck Must Be Punished

Fox News Channel commentator Glenn Beck said, on camera, that he believes President Barack Obama is a racist.   Beck made the statement during a guest appearance Tuesday on the "Fox & Friends" morning show. He said Obama has exposed himself as a person with "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."  And later he added, “I’m not saying he doesn’t like white people, I’m saying he has a problem. He has a…This guy is, I believe, a racist.”
 
First off, I do not think Glenn Beck understands what the word racist actually means. The way Beck uses the work is like one guy of one race doesn’t like another guy of a different race. This may imply some sort of prejudice. If one guy doesn’t like people of a different race then it may be unfair and discriminatory, but it is not racist. The word racist refers to a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and those racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.  There is a sort of sub definition that carries the idea that racism exists when one race is in a position of power and uses that power to keep another racial group from enjoying equal rights and economic liberties.
 
Secondly, it seems very odd to call a man racist when he has a white mother whom he loved, and white grandparents that helped raise him and with whom he has expressed love. President Obama is half white, so if he hates white people he hates half of himself. His children are at least a quarter white, so he hates one fourth of his children. This is just stupid and insulting. 
 
Donnie Deutsch called form everyone offended by Glenn Beck to boycott the advertisers who support Beck’s show. If you want to boycott the advertisers then do so, but my preference would be millions of emails and letters to the advertisers urging them to stop supporting this whack-job bugger-brained nut.
 
This is not one isolated incident where Glenn Beck has mouthed off and spewed his narrow-minded thinking on the air waves; this is just another example from a long list of examples.

He wants to use our missiles until we are out of missiles and then would want more?  Does this dough-dough head really hate people enough to brag about killing millions if he had his finger on the button?

Is Beck revealing a sort of self-destructive mental instability?  This may explain a lot.

Does this lover of freedom really advocate murdering people with whom he disagrees?  That kind of freedom lover we can do without.
 
Now we have freedom of speech in this country and we can’t maintain freedom of speech unless we protect the right of all speech. There may be exceptions when it comes to speech that results in crimes, but in the majority of cases we must endure dumb speech, racist speech, sexist speech, and political commentary to which we violently disagree. I support Beck’s right to call anyone he chooses a racist. I also support the right of the people to contact his advertisers and to say, while Beck has a right to say what he wants we have the right to ask advertisers to not support his offensive, stupid speech with their advertising dollars, and if they choose to continue we have the freedom to choose to stop buying their products.
