ColumnistThe Future of Buddhism in America
by e

According to a recent Pew Report, 65% of Americans now practice meditation or yoga. And what ranked as the fastest growing religion? Buddhism! So naturally there is much discussion now going on in Buddhist circles about how Buddhism will develop in America - and here is my two cents worth. Historically, Buddhism has taken on the culture to which it has migrated, and I believe that American Buddhism will be no exception. I further think that American values will reflect deeply in the Buddhisms that eventually become “American Buddhisms.” But what are present American values? Are they are Mom, God and Apple Pie? He takes out a Bible and points to a passage where it says God created Negras to serve their white masters. And then them Yankees come down here and changed it all so's white people of distintion like us could no-more take-a whip... (read the rest of what John Sammon wrote.)

Infant Denied Health Insurance Because "Obese"
by Beth Kade

In case we needed further proof that Health Care is getting out of control, a story out of Denver is guaranteed to make you march up to Congress. The Denver Post is reporting that four-month-old Alex Lange has be denied health insurance because of what the insurance carrier feels that little Alex has a " pre-existing condition-obesity. " Little Alex was born what is considered a normal baby at 8 1/4 pounds. He has been strictly on a breast milk diet since birth and is now in the 99th percentile for height and weight for babies his age. " I could understand if we could control what he's eating. But he's 4 months old. He's breast-feeding. We can't put him on the Atkins diet... (read the rest of what Beth Kade wrote.)
